  1. Hi Kerry,
My name is Katie and we found out our collie Timmy has lymphoma-it was Thanksgiving Week. Would welcome your input–
Two specific questions: 1) How much of your recipe do you feed your dog (Timmy is 70 lbs) and do you combine it with dry food? Timmy is undergoing treatment now.
All the dogs in the house got diarrhea from the turkey—I’ve had Timmy still on hamburger and rice/chicken/rice until about a week ago–then went to Hills I/D canned and dry.
I want to get him on a good diet for what he is going through–debating about keeping the I/D to avoid stomach issues w/ the chemo or trying something to support his healing. He is normally on Taste of the Wild Salmon dry–
Thank you in advance for any help and referrals you could provide–
    Best regards,
    Katie

    • Wow, Katie… it is never a good time to get such news, is it? I am sorry, but hang in there! There is so much that you can do to feel as if you are contributing to the situation in a positive way.

Here are the answers to your questions:

I feed Diego, who is now 35 pounds, about a cup and a half in the morning and again at night. He gets fun snacks throughout the day, such as almonds, seeds, and raw veggies. I have not been combining it with dry food, although I have looked into one line just this week. The verdict is still out on my opinion, so you can check back with me even in a week and I can update you.

One thing that I am now changing is that I am crockpotting or baking the meat and keeping the veggies totally raw or cooked under 118 degrees. This keeps the enzymes alive. You can use a candy thermometer if you are cooking them. A light steam is great too. I steam the yams or sweet potatoes.Diego never got diarrhea from the food change. What you could do is slowly transition them by adding half and half for a week, until their tummies get used to it. Make sure that you are using BROWN RICE not white. White is a simple carb and will turn into sugar in his system. You do not want to feed the cancer!

Please note some new supplements that I am using:
      - Mushroom Matrix… I can’t remember if it is by Animal Essentials and I am not at home. Many brands carry the mushroom matrix.
      - Organic Flax seed oil
      - A few organic garlic cloves
      - I am looking into including iodine… feeding them seaweed, kelp, nori, etc is also great. I do both
      - I just switched from Animal Essentials Seaweed Extract and Animal Essentials Multi Vit to Call Of The Wild Canine and Feline Nutritional Support. I did this because it seemed I could get everything in the one product, plus it is more economical. Better product, better price perhaps? I am checking it out.
      - I am still using Aloha Medicinals K9 Immunity as well as their Transfer Factor and Omega 3s (make sure your omegas are a combo of 3, 6, and 9)

Is Taste of The Wild the same as Call Of The Wild? I know Call Of The Wild is a decent brand. What is in the Hills?

Also check out this book by Lauri Kaplan, she includes recipes: http://www.amazon.com/Help-Your-Dog-Fight-Cancer/dp/0975479474/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323656653&sr=8-1

I am here for you! Feel free to reach out again.

      Hugs and aarfs,
      Kerry and Diego

  2. Hi Kerry,
I came across your youtube video today for the dog food recipe. Thanks so much because it then led me to your website, and a message I needed to hear! We have alot on our plates right now, but finding out that the family dog, Kona is sick has put so much into perspective. I have some questions regarding Diego’s treatment. How long has he been going through Chemo? Also, how has his quality of life been during the process? I have not seen your other videos yet. I have just found you this morning Thanks for putting the information out here. Heather

    • Hi Heather…

I am sorry to hear your news. Diego went into remission after his second treatment. We had some hard weeks, but overall his quality of life has been extraordinary. He is a happy pup. As of this week we have found out he has come out of remission :( So… that is about ten or eleven months in remission before relapse. I am going through my options right now as to what road we will take. He finished his six months of chemo at the end of November and in February his lymph node swelled again, but it was asymmetrical, which is unusual. The tests came back negative. As of last week he got a strange bump on his forehead that came back positive for cancer. He is still happy as can be with an awesome appetite and wants to play and go on walks.

Let me know if you have more questions.

      Much love, Kerry
