80/20 Rule Saves You During Holidays!

Don’t you just love the holidays? I do! I love the company, the parties, the gift giving, and of course the festive food and drinks. But how many of us kicked ourselves the week after on the amount of indulgence we allowed to take place? TODAY I want you to become very aware, from reading this post, that this year you can choose to live out this holiday season differently. I will keep it short and sweet as I know this time of year is crazy busy.

Let’s keep this very simple… stick to the 80/20 rule. What does that mean? That means 80% of the time you are making choices that you know are healthy for you. You are filling your appetizer plate with the vegetables and hummus, versus the cookies and sweets. You are checking in with yourself after the first helping at the dinner table to see if you really need seconds. You are drinking a full glass of water to every glass of alcohol you consume. You are focusing on the people, not the food. You are getting outside and moving your body on a walk. And you are getting enough sleep for goodness sakes!

I do believe that the holidays, and every day, are supposed to be fun and festive as well. I fully understand that this time of year might be the only time grandma makes your most favorite holiday rum cake. So… have some! But have some in moderation. That is where the 20% comes into play. 80% of the time you make the healthier choice, 20% of the time you have a bit more fun. It really doesn’t have to be difficult.

On that note, have a fabulous holiday season! Be present to what is the healthy choice for your body and enjoy!

Warmest wishes,
Kerry

Changing Seasons… Changing Health Patterns!

Your body parallels the natural cycle of the world around you, including seasonal patterns.

Massage… aahhh, just thinking about it helps you relax, doesn’t it? I know… me too.

Hydration

One of the main questions I always ask a client is how much water are they drinking on a daily basis. The answer I usually get, “Probably not enough” or “I could always drink more.” Drinking clean water is a gift to our bodies. It is relatively inexpensive and can easily be integrated into one’s daily routine. Some of the rebuttals I come up across are “It’s just hard to get that much water down, it doesn’t taste like anything” or “I always seem to forget.” Keep it simple and enjoyable! Instead of plain water, perhaps put a citrus slice in it… lemon, lime, even orange. Or add a little bit of sugar free juice to give it a twist. The “I always seem to forget” solution is to simply make sure to have bottles in the places where you usually spend your time. It is a staple for me to have bottles at my office, where I work at home, in my bedroom, and an aluminum bottle in my car. Driving is actually one of the main places I drink my water. I am there anyways and it is not distracting, might as well.

How much water do you actually need? This seems to be an ongoing question. A good rule of thumb to go by is 8- 10 glasses. If you are a heavy exerciser and sweat quite a bit, I suggest more. There are many reasons to stay hydrated. Research as shown that drinking 5 glasses of water a day may decrease the chances of colon cancer by 45%. Additionally it reduces the likelihood to get bladder cancer by 50% and breast cancer by 79%.

What's My Mission Anyways?

My mission is to touch the lives of 10,000,000 people in a way that influences them to live positive, preventative lifestyles to get/be/and stay healthy. A goal is to educate people on healthy living so that making healthy choices is a natural way of thinking for them. Starting with our younger generations is key to this mission. If our younger generations are making healthy choices out of a natural way of thinking, then we can derail many health concerns and change the lives of our future generations.

Hence "The Blog"

I found myself writing this blog pretty unexpectedly. It was nothing that I planned on, but rather something I stumbled on, which is the case with so many great things in my life. Over the past eight years in my private holistic health business, I have found myself coaching my clients on simple ways to get healthy. “At least start with one thing and then we will go from there.” I tell them. That one homework assignment I would send them out the door with before their next session with me would often be something as basic as hydrating or stretching daily. Even these two simple adjustments to their lives could make a big difference.

After talking to thousands of people about their health and how they take care of themselves, I began to note patterns. I realized that a lot of people simply don’t know the basics on living a preventative lifestyle and why it is so impactful to the way they feel. I saw my clientele as a representation of the common public and began fine tuning suggestions to be very simple, making transitions manageable. That’s when the next question bubbled up in me, “Why not get all the information that I am already coaching clients with into a book and blog to reach more people?” And here we are today.
